As hard as it can be to believe sometimes, July has ended and we’re more than halfway through 2018! If you’re like many, you’re wondering where the year has gone. As winter months faded into warmer spring weather and summer sunshine, how are you really doing with your 2018 goals and resolutions you set out to accomplish back in January?

For some, those goals and resolutions dissolved a few weeks after they were made. For others however, those resolutions became year-long (and perhaps even life-long) journeys to a new and improved way of living. The journey with weight and health is ongoing!

Assessing Your 2018 Goals, Resolutions and Progress

If during the New Year you made the decision to take charge of your weight and health or renew your commitment to your goals, here are a few things to keep in mind when reflecting back on 2018 thus far:

What signs of physical progress are you seeing? Consider any weight you have lost, the way your clothes fit and how your body feels overall. Assess your level of daily energy and even make it a point to check your vitals. How are your cholesterol, blood pressure and other diagnostics reading? It may be time to make your next healthcare appointment.

How are you feeling mentally? The journey with weight and health is mental and emotional as well as physical. How do you feel about yourself as a whole? Do you feel more energized, happy and confident? Or do you feel stressed, frustrated and irritated? Learn to identify these emotions.

Have you busted any habits? Bad habits dissolve good intentions quickly. Common habits many people try breaking as the New Year begins include poor diets, lack of exercise, lack of self-care and poor time management.

Have you tried something new? New recipes, activities and life experiences are great for staying motivated and on-track. Have you ventured out to try new and healthy foods somewhere different? What about a type of exercise you’ve been wanting to try such as rock climbing or a group sport?

Are you moving forward? Having clearly-defined goals is essential to the weight and health journey. If you’ve lost sight of what you set out to achieve, it may be time to stop and re-evaluate your goals and wishes.

A Promising Ending

2018 is far from over, so if you’re less-than satisfied with the year so far and the progress you have made on your weight/health journey, look to the future.
