YWM Convention: Uniting the OAC Family
As we prepare to launch the registration for the 2nd Annual Your Weight Matters National Convention, I want to take a moment to reflect on last year’s inaugural Convention and what made it such a unique, groundbreaking, monumental event in my mind. I could talk about the unbiased, evidence-based education, the entire day dedicated to advocacy training, or the success of the launch of our Annual Awards Program. And while these are all factors that contributed to this event being the most successful event I have had the pleasure to be a part of, the thing that stands out most for me was our attendees.
I’ve been to tons of conventions and actually planned dozens in my professional career, but none of them compared to the inaugural YWM convention. This was the first time in the history of the organization that our membership came together in one place, bringing our OAC family together and building the family with new attendees. This was truly a remarkable experience for me and I want to continue to extend my gratitude to all who participated in the meeting.
This was more than a meeting, conference or convention for me – it was a renewal. For 8 years, I have served as President & CEO of the OAC, fighting tirelessly on behalf of all our members. The YWM Convention renewed my belief in what we do and energized me to continue to work hard to passionately convey our message to public officials. Our members coming together, creating the strong bond that is the OAC family, was a source of passion that went beyond anything I could have imagined. Hearing your stories, listening to you share your messages, reminded me why the work we do is so important.
So this is why I am looking forward to this year’s Convention in Phoenix. It is an opportunity for our family to come back together and for all of us to welcome new members to the OAC Family. You all form a core group of individuals who make a difference, and I cannot wait to feel the strength and fire when we all meet again in August. Together, we work towards the same goals and the same mission. Please help me build our Family and invite your own family, friends and colleagues to attend this one-of-a-kind event.
