Internalize LOVE, Not Bias!

During the month of February, messages of love surround us everywhere we look. When most of us think about love, we think about special relationships with other people – but what about the importance of loving and appreciating ourselves?

For many people affected by obesity, self-love and self-care can be difficult if they have experienced weight bias. This is especially true if individuals find themselves struggling to navigate other-person relationships, which can seem extremely difficult during the month of February. Internalizing weight bias can lead to poor self-esteem, depression and even worsening health. While it’s important to recognize the relationship that weight has on health, it’s not healthy to internalize bias and let it affect the way you perceive yourself and your health journey.

This February, the OAC encourages you to internalize LOVE instead of bias! Use these affirmative statements below to spread the LOVE with yourself and others throughout the month.

You are so right. We must learn to love ourselves just as we are. I have recently joined a movement dedicated to eradicating not only obesity but all major diseases.
