The Treat and Reduce Obesity Act (TROA) is a bipartisan bill that will give Medicare-eligible Americans greater access to obesity healthcare services, treatments and providers. Currently, this bill has Congressional support from 185 co-sponsors in the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate and has yet to come up for a committee or floor vote since it was first introduced in 2013. While we are pleased with the fact that TROA currently has strong support, we need even more in order to finally give it a committee or floor vote.

With the rise of Coronavirus (COVID-19), now more than ever the OAC is calling on everyone to take action and show support for TROA. During this crisis, we have learned that obesity is the greatest risk factor, only after age, for severe illness or even death if COVID-19 is contracted. Supporting TROA and obesity care can help save millions of American lives from the threat of COVID-19.

To show your support for TROA, please visit the OAC Action Center to send an automated letter to your state legislators, which you can customize, urging them to support TROA by including its provisions in the future COVID-19 relief packages. Click here to get started.

We are thankful for those who support TROA in the House and Senate who have helped organize a group of 44 members from Congress to write a letter to Congressional leadership which will urge Congress to include the provisions of TROA in any future legislation for pandemic relief. With their support and the support of our community, we are hopeful that TROA will be passed.
