The Obesity Action Coalition (OAC) is honored to announce Chair Patricia Nece, JD, was awarded The Obesity Society’s (TOS) Presidential Medal of Distinction at ObesityWeek® 2022. Ms. Nece was recognized for her courage in advocating for people with obesity.

As a dedicated member of the Obesity Action Coalition and Chair of the OAC National Board of Directors, Nece is an avid advocate for sound obesity treatments and the eradication of weight-based bias. She encourages change by sharing her own experiences of living with obesity. Her advocacy work has included testifying before the U.S. Food & Drug Administration about the need for more evidence-based treatments, giving a patient’s perspective at various obesity solution roundtables, and telling her story to legislators, healthcare providers, food-industry representatives and more. Nece’s involvement with OAC, a nonprofit organization dedicated to giving a voice to individuals affected by obesity, has challenged weight bias, supported science-based obesity treatments and empowered others in their health journeys.

Ms. Nece was awarded the TOS Presidential Medal during the Presidential Plenary session at ObesityWeek® 2022, the leading international conference on obesity that brings together scientific, medical, policy and other professionals interested in obesity. TOS Presidential Medals are awarded each year by The Obesity Society to individuals who have made an impact on the care of persons with obesity. This year, the conference was hosted virtually and in person in San Diego, Calif.
