Join OAC on Capitol Hill, September 27th, to Support the Treat and Reduce Obesity Act!If you have an interest in advocacy work or policy change, OAC has an exciting opportunity for you! On September 27th, we’re headed to Capitol Hill for an Advocacy Day hosted by the Obesity Medicine Association (OMA) and Obesity Care Advocacy Network (OCAN). The Advocacy Day will focus on urging state legislators to support the Treat and Reduce Obesity Act (TROA) in an effort to improve access to obesity care nationwide!

Why Should I Care?

The Treat and Reduce Obesity Act aims to effectively treat and reduce obesity in older Americans by giving Medicare beneficiaries expanded access to various behavioral counseling opportunities and/or prescription medications. However, although the TROA directly benefits those with Medicare, it’s important to ALL Americans because many insurance companies are modeled off of matching Medicare coverage. The TROA is a critical piece of legislation that needs your support as well as the support of more policy makers in Congress!

What You Need to Know

The deadline to sign-up for the TROA Advocacy Day is Thursday, September 6th. Pre-registration is required. This legislation needs all the support it can get! If you’re new to advocacy, not sure how to influence policy or a little rusty on your advocacy skills, don’t worry. A helpful webinar will be provided to you before the event. All we need is a group of passionate people who are determined to see the TROA pass through Congress and influence patient lives!

Though transportation to Capitol Hill will not be provided, OAC encourages any supporters living in or nearby Washington, DC to mark their calendar and attend the Advocacy Day. If you know someone who lives in this area, tell them about the opportunity! The TROA Advocacy Day is a great way to take #OACAction and make a difference.

Not able to attend the Advocacy Day? That’s okay too. You can support the TROA and contact your legislators from your very own phone or computer! To take action at home, visit OAC’s online Action Center by CLICKING HERE.
