March 5th – Childhood obesity places kids at risk for diseases that were once only seen in adults, such as type 2 diabetes. These health issues, if left untreated, worsen with age. With this being said, it is crucial that we address childhood obesity and ensure that they are receiving fair and equal care.
Childhood obesity has been hugely impacted this year with the COVID-19 pandemic. COVID-19 is affecting food resources all over the world and is making it difficult for children to get the proper amount of nutrients of food. In this difficult time, it is critical to stay informed about childhood obesity, prevention and treatment.
We encourage you to watch the OAC’s Childhood Obesity Day segment featured here. This video will feature one of the OAC members who will highlight the difficulties of childhood obesity and why it is important to stay informed and discuss treatment and prevention with your child’s healthcare provider.
