The OAC is deeply saddened by the recent passing of long-time OAC member, Rob Portinga. Rob was a member of the OAC National Board of Directors and served on many OAC committees. He was a pioneer in the obesity community representing the “dudes” perspective, as he would often say. He was also the recipient of the Barbara Thompson Award for Advocacy in 2014 and the OAC Member of the Year Award in 2015. Rob was often referred to by others as “an extremely kind individual” and “always offered a balanced perspective of life.” The OAC will miss Rob and thanks him for his many years of service and dedication to the organization. His legacy and passion for constructive, thoughtful conversation and connectivity with each other will continue to live on within the OAC.
