Tampa, Fla., April 26, 2019 – In response to comedian Jay Leno’s “Angry Rant” monologue on the April 25, 2019 episode of the Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon regarding obesity

Statement from Obesity Action Coalition (OAC) President and CEO, Joe Nadglowski:

“The OAC condemns the deplorable and unacceptable comments regarding obesity that were stated by comedian Jay Leno during the April 25th episode of the Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Mr. Leno’s comments severely stigmatized the disease of obesity and most importantly people affected by it.

The OAC finds Mr. Leno’s monologue to be very offensive on many levels. The statements made by Mr. Leno and featured on the Tonight Show greatly contribute to the stigmatization of people with obesity. Obesity is a serious, complex disease affecting more than 93 million Americans nationwide.

The OAC has reached out to NBC for further action on this serious issue and is calling on Mr. Leno to publicly apologize for his comments on obesity.”
