“The Obesity Action Coalition (OAC) applauds the World Health Organization (WHO) for including the disease of obesity in their recently released “Time to Deliver” report on noncommunicable diseases. With obesity impacting more than 93 million Americans, and quickly becoming a global epidemic, it is imperative that we raise awareness of the disease and continue efforts to find safe and effective science-based treatments.

As awareness and recognition of obesity as a serious disease increases, we must also recognize the presence and impact of weight bias. Bias remains at the forefront in the fight against obesity, as it impacts all facets of life for someone living with obesity, especially healthcare. It is our hope that with WHO’s inclusion of obesity, we can address this disease from all aspects.”

The OAC, along with many other organizations, issued a letter to WHO stating the need for the inclusion of obesity in this report. To view the letter, click here.
