Background: Virginia ranks 21st in the nation for obesity rates, with over 35% of its residents having obesity and another 32% having overweight. Now is the time to prioritize obesity care by expanding access to obesity treatment, NOT adding new hurdles for patients and their healthcare providers. Anti-obesity medications are FDA-approved, and will allow patients and their healthcare providers additional tools in their journey toward improved health. Medical decisions should be between a patient and their healthcare provider, but Virginia lawmakers are considering setting restrictions on coverage based on BMI. The time to act is now!

Take Action Now: Use OAC’s advocacy tool below to urge Virginia’s decision makers to remove the BMI restrictions for obesity treatment coverage from the budget proposal.
