Sometimes, revisiting the past can be painful — but it can also bring healing. That’s what happened for Jess at this year’s Your Weight Matters National Convention. He came seeking connection and support for himself, but what he found in the Thrive Together Program went far deeper: a chance to witness young people experiencing the kind of hope and guidance he wished he had as a child.

“As a kid, I joined a mentorship program for children living in larger bodies,” Jess shares. “It was the first time I felt hopeful and supported. But when the mentor left, the program ended abruptly. I felt abandoned, and that loss stayed with me for years.”

Watching the teens in Thrive Together bond, learn and share their stories reminded Jess of what he once had — but this time, it was different. Thrive is structured, intentional and built to last, with support for teens, parents and families every step of the way.

“It felt like witnessing the second chance I never had,” Jess says. “To these teens, I want to say: I believe in you, even if we haven’t met yet. You inspire me to keep going.”
