Spring 2016

For the past 10 years, the Obesity Action Coalition has been the voice of those affected by obesity through education, advocacy and support. A little more than five years ago, the OAC National Board wanted to extend the OAC’s commitment to sharing evidence-based education on weight and health.

Through the OAC’s educational outreach and advocacy efforts, we had the opportunity to spend time with many people across the nation, and so many expressed the need for support, the eagerness to connect with others and for some the desire to unite their voices for common goals.

To fill this need, the Your Weight MattersNational Convention was created, and this year’s YWM2016 marks the 5th year of this educational event.

As this year’s Your Weight Matters National Convention Committee Chairperson, I am honored to share with you information about this year’s event. This year’s theme is: United We Stand – Inspiring Heath. The Convention Planning Committee used these words and imagery to inspire us as we planned the agenda that will greet our attendees this year.

The comprehensive agenda of health, weight, nutrition, fitness and wellness topics presented by world renowned experts in their field of weight management truly offers something for everyone. Whether you are interested in the basics, want to cut through the often confusing health information out there, are looking to advance your knowledge about your weight and how it can affect your health, are currently involved in a weight management program, are a post-op bariatric surgery patient or are a support-person to someone who is affected — you will find education and inspiration at YWM2016!

I invite you to take a look at this year’s awesome agenda by CLICKING HERE.

Mark your calendars for Monday, March 7! That is the date you will be able to officially register for the Convention. The discounted room block is now open, and you can book your rooms online or over the phone.

Our host hotel is the spectacular Gaylord National Resort in Washington, DC. I had the opportunity to explore the hotel and its surrounding area just a few weeks ago for the OAC’s annual Strategic Planning Meeting. You are going to love it! The beautiful view from the 19-story glass atrium of the Potomac River, the Washington DC area and Old Town Alexandria will be a lovely bonus to our weekend agenda.

Keep up-to-date with all the latest convention details by visiting our Convention Web site at www.YWMConvention.com. There, you can sign up for Convention E-news Alerts to receive all the exciting convention announcements straight to your email inbox as they are released. We also have a Your Weight Matters National Convention Facebook Page to connect with fellow attendees.

I hope you will join us in Washington, DC August 25-28!
