About the Research
This research project is being conducted by Psychologist Michael Vallis, PhD – Associate Professor of Family Medicine at Dalhousie University – and his colleague Dr. Steven Glazer, the Medical Director of the bariatric program at Humber River Hospital in Toronto.
The motivation to conduct the research comes from concerns about how people affected by obesity are coping with the pandemic, as well as how this is impacting weight management.
- Are people affected by obesity experiencing more stress from COVID-19, since their risk of severe health complications is greater?
- Are they finding it harder to maintain healthy lifestyle habits?
- Are they struggling with eating behaviors?
- What negative effects on weight could social distancing be having?
Right now, there are a lot of assumptions being made about how people with obesity are coping with COVID-19. This research project aims to get more information and hear directly from people who are being affected so more solid conclusions can be made.
