As Obesity Care Week (OCW) 2025 continues, we at the Obesity Action Coalition (OAC) can’t emphasize enough the power of collaboration in driving meaningful change for individuals affected by obesity. As a Founding Champion of OCW, we’re invested in advancing obesity care, fighting stigma and advocating for stronger policies.

Our impact is amplified through our role in the Obesity Care Advocacy Network (OCAN)—a diverse group of organizations that have come together to change how we perceive and approach the problem of obesity in the U.S.

Uniting Voices for Greater Impact

As a part of OCAN, which was formed a decade ago , OAC works alongside more than 30 other key organizations such as the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, the American Diabetes Association, the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery and The Obesity Society. This collaboration allows us to:

  • Share expertise and best practices
  • Coordinate efforts for maximum national impact
  • Address obesity from multiple perspectives
  • Amplify our collective voice in policy discussions

As the leading patient voice in obesity, OAC ensures that the real experiences and needs of those affected by obesity remain at the heart of these discussions.

Advancing Comprehensive Obesity Care

Through OCAN, OAC advocates for increased access to evidence-based obesity treatments and continues to elevate obesity on the national agenda. Our collaborative efforts focus on:

  • Educating policymakers and the public about obesity as a complex disease
  • Pushing for key legislation, such as the Treat and Reduce Obesity Act and the recent CMS proposed rule to expand obesity treatment coverage
  • Fighting weight weight bias and stigma in healthcare and society
  • Securing funding for obesity research and education
