Protect North Carolina Medicaid Coverage of Obesity Medications

Background: In August 2024, advocates celebrated the start of North Carolina Medicaid coverage for obesity medication, including FDA approved GLP-1s. In October 2025, less than a year after coverage began, the it ended due to a stalemate in budget negotiations. In early December, Governor Stein’s administration reversed the Medicaid cuts and restored the coverage of GLP-1 medications for obesity.

Ending NC Medicaid coverage of anti-obesity drugs would be a terrible mistake
