Urge Congress to Pass the Medical Nutrition Therapy Act

Background: Medicare currently limits coverage of Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) to beneficiaries with diabetes or kidney disease, leaving millions without access to evidence-based nutrition care.

The Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) Act (H.R. 6199) would expand access to registered dietitian nutritionists for Medicare beneficiaries who need it most by:

– Expanding Medicare Part B coverage of Medical Nutrition Therapy to include obesity and other diet-related chronic conditions, such as prediabetes, cardiovascular disease, hypertension, cancer, gastrointestinal diseases (including celiac disease), malnutrition, eating disorders, HIV and AIDS, and conditions related to unintentional weight loss.

– Allowing nurse practitioners, physician assistants, clinical nurse specialists, and psychologists to refer patients for MNT, improving access and care coordination.
