Thank CMS for the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge!
Background: The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), the federal agency that administers Medicare, launched the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge on July 1, 2026. This temporary program provides eligible Medicare beneficiaries with access to FDA-approved GLP-1 medications for weight management. The program provides a new pathway to treatment for people who have Medicare Part D or Medicare Advantage prescription drug coverage but would not otherwise have access to these medications through Part D.
More than 600,000 people are already taking part in the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge, demonstrating the significant need for access to obesity treatment among Medicare beneficiaries. The Bridge is an important step forward in recognizing obesity as a serious, chronic disease and expanding access to science-based treatment.
OAC is grateful for this progress and encourages the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) to continue building on the Bridge by:
– Expanding access to all FDA-approved obesity medications.
– Strengthening access to lifestyle and behavioral care.
– Improving access for TRICARE For Life beneficiaries.
Obesity is complex, and no single treatment works for everyone. Continued progress can help ensure Medicare beneficiaries have access to comprehensive, science-based obesity care that meets their individual needs.
Take Action Now: Add your name to thank CMS for creating the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge and encourage continued progress toward comprehensive, science-based obesity care.
