Ask Maryland Lawmakers to Support Coverage for Obesity Care
Background: For years advocates have worked to improve access to care for Marylanders living with obesity. The Maryland General Assembly has introduced legislation which would provide coverage for the comprehensive treatment of obesity to allow patients and their healthcare providers additional tools in their individual journey to improved health.
HB1489/SB876 Maryland Medical Assistance Program – Coverage for the Treatment of Obesity would provide coverage for the comprehensive treatment of obesity under Maryland’s Medical Assistance Program – including coverage for intensive behavioral therapy, bariatric surgery, and FDA-approved anti-obesity medications.
In March, the bill was included in hearings in both the House and Senate. Now we need your help to build support and momentum to get the bill through the legislative and passed into law!
