Ask Maryland Lawmakers to Support Coverage for Obesity Care

Background: For years advocates have worked to improve access to care for Marylanders living with obesity. The Maryland General Assembly and Senate have introduced legislation which would provide coverage for the comprehensive treatment of obesity to allow patients and their healthcare providers additional tools in their individual journey to improved health.

– SB496/HB813 would provide coverage for the comprehensive treatment of obesity under Maryland’s Medical Assistance Program – including coverage for intensive behavioral therapy, bariatric surgery, and FDA-approved obesity medications.

– HB1565 would establish an obesity management and treatment program in the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program.

Both bills were recently included in hearings which is an important step forward! Now we need your help to build support and momentum to get the bill through the legislative process and passed into law.
