Ask Massachusetts Lawmakers to Restore Coverage for Obesity Medications

Background: Last year, the legislature rejected a proposal that would have eliminated coverage for GLP-1 medications for obesity for state employees. Unfortunately, that protection did not last.

As of July 2026, both state employees and MassHealth members have lost coverage for GLP-1 medications prescribed for obesity. These changes mean that many Massachusetts residents who previously had access to these medications through their health coverage are now facing the loss of treatment or significant out-of-pocket costs.
