Ask Florida Lawmakers to Support Coverage for Obesity Care
Background: For years advocates have worked to improve access to care for Floridians living with obesity. Sponsors in both the House and Senate have introduced a bill that would provide comprehensive obesity treatments to allow patients and their healthcare providers additional tools in their individual journey to improved health.
Florida HB713/S648 – Diabetes Prevention and Obesity Treatment Act. would require the Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA) to provide Medicaid coverage for certain treatments for obesity, including intensive behavioral and lifestyle therapy, metabolic and bariatric surgery, and FDA-approved obesity medications (OMs).
