Ask California Lawmakers to Protect Coverage for Obesity Medications

Background: For years, advocates have worked to improve access to care for Californians living with obesity. In 2023, Medi-Cal began covering GLP-1 medications for obesity. Unfortunately, Governor Newsom’s state budget included language that would eliminate Medi-Cal coverage for GLP-1 medications effective January 2026. Removing this coverage would be a harmful and inequitable setback for thousands of Californians who are finally receiving the care they need and deserve.

We must advocate to protect and preserve existing Medi-Cal coverage for obesity medications.
