New York Observer

An OAC member has alerted us to a movie review by New York Observer movie critic Rex Reed. Mr. Reed recently reviewed the film Identify Theft starring Jason Bateman and Melissa McCarthy. In Mr. Reed’s review, he negatively stigmatizes Ms. McCarthy by referring to her as “tractor-sized.”

Mr. Reed continues to say, “Melissa McCarthy (Bridesmaids) is a gimmick comedian who has devoted her short career to being obese and obnoxious with equal success.”

This type of behavior only further perpetuates weight bias in today’s society. The OAC is calling on YOU to contact Mr. Reed and other Observer staff and let them know that this type of stigmatizing behavior will not be tolerated.
