Tampa, Fla. – The Obesity Action Coalition (OAC) is excited to announce Pam Davis, RN, CBN, as the new chairperson of the Coalition. Ms. Davis has been a member of the OAC since 2005, was elected to the Advisory Board in 2006 and has held a position on the Board of Directors since 2008.

Pam is a Certified Bariatric Nurse and the Program Director for Centennial Center for the Treatment of Obesity in Nashville, Tenn. She serves in multiple volunteer roles including the Tennessee Chapter of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS). Pam chairs the Integrated Health Clinical Issues and Guidelines Committee of the ASBMS and the Health Systems team of the Tennessee Obesity Taskforce. Through her work at Centennial, she strives to educate employers and physicians on obesity prevention and treatment while working toward access to care for all levels of obesity treatment.

After undergoing gastric bypass surgery in 2001, she developed a passion for working with those with severe obesity. Pam has been an active member of the Case Management Society of America (CMSA) for many years and is the co-author of CMSA’s Case Management Resource Path on Morbid Obesity. In 2007, she received the CMSA National Award of Service Excellence.

“Working in the field of obesity and being affected by it personally has provided me with two unique viewpoints of the disease. I feel I am able to connect with the patients at my hospital because I know what they are going through in their lives. Being elected Chairman of the OAC will allow me to even further connect with individuals affected by obesity. The OAC is the only non-profit organization whose sole focus is helping those affected by obesity and I am proud to lead this organization,” said Pam Davis, RN, CBN, OAC Chairman.

Ms. Davis has completed several visits to Washington, DC, speaking with legislators to explain the need for both prevention and treatment of obesity. She relates both her personal story of obesity and the impact of obesity bias and the associated stigma in her life and the lives of others.

“Pam is a tried and true member of this coalition. She enters the role of chairman with many successes and an excellent understanding of the OAC, its members and its focus. We are extremely proud to have her serve the OAC and know that she will represent its more than 33,000 members proudly,” said Joe Nadglowski, OAC President and CEO.

The OAC also welcomes two new directors for the 2012-2014 board terms. They are as follows: Holly F. Lofton, MD and Amber D. Huett.
