Gainesville, Fla. – In September and October 2007 in more than 70 cities across the United States, those affected by the disease of obesity will join forces and walk to raise money for education, research, advocacy, prevention and treatment of obesity. At this year’s Walk, friends, family members, colleagues and supporters of those who are affected are invited to join together in taking steps toward a healthier life.

“The ‘Walk from Obesity’ is a great opportunity for individuals to participate in an event that will benefit so many essential areas of advancing the care for all those affected by the many forms of obesity. This year’s Walk is a great opportunity for the ASBS Foundation and the Obesity Action Coalition (OAC) to work together to raise awareness of this disease and bring it to the forefront of the healthcare community,” said Joseph Nadglowski, Jr., ASBS Foundation Executive Director.

Last year’s Walk generated more than 4,100 participants nationwide and raised more than $465,000 for obesity research. Participants proudly walked courses hosted by event leaders in their communities. To date, the Walk has raised more than $1.6 million to support its efforts.

Walk event locations are now available online at www.walkfromobesity.com. Potential walkers can visit the Walk site and learn more about the Walk, obesity, training programs and much more.

The ASBS Foundation and Obesity Action Coalition’s “Walk from Obesity” was established to give hope to those needing it most. Walkers raise money by asking friends, family, and co-workers to sponsor them. In addition to walker income, funds are raised through sponsorship, matching gifts, corporate contributions and other fundraising activities.
