UPDATE!
OAC Pressures PETA to Remove Billboard on Montel Williams Show - Billboard Replaced
The OAC was alerted by one of its members of a disturbing new billboard campaign released by PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals). To view the billboard, click here. The OAC is calling on PETA to immediately remove this blatantly offensive advertisement from every billboard in the country.
This is just another way that the obese are unfairly targeted and stigmatized. PETA is using the obese as a way to crudely “shock” the public, all at the expense of individuals impacted by obesity. We, as a Coalition, will not stand for this. This billboard is just now starting to make mainstream news and now is the time for us to stand up and let PETA, as well as the rest of the country, know that we will not tolerate this “cruelty to human beings.”
Contact PETA and let them know how you feel!

While we are all outraged by this type of exploitation, it is important that we remain strong but respectful when contacting PETA. Here are some tips on what to write:
-
Let PETA know why this advertisement is unacceptable
-
Explain to PETA how this unfairly targets those affected by obesity
-
Let PETA know the struggles faced by the obese are real, just as the struggles that are faced by animals who are victims or cruelty are real
-
Respectfully ask PETA to remove the advertisement from this billboard
-
Invite PETA to learn more about obesity and the OAC
Keep these tips in mind when writing to PETA. But most importantly, let them know that we will not stand for this type of stigmatization. Please take a few seconds to respond to PETA. They need to hear from those that this billboard targets. Together, we DO make a difference!
