How You Can Volunteer Your Time in Support of the OAC
This week, we’ve shared with you about why it’s important to volunteer for the causes you care about. In addition, we’ve also shared with you about the various work of our OAC volunteers, and how it’s because of their dedication and hard work that we’ve been able to continue our mission of supporting all individuals affected by the disease of obesity.
If you’ve felt inspired by this week’s blog series and wish to show you support for the OAC as well by serving as a volunteer, you’re in luck! Continue reading to learn about the various ways that you can support our organization by volunteering your time:
Share OAC Resources with Your Community
The OAC has a variety of free educational resources that we provide to individuals affected by excess weight and obesity, but in order for those individuals to learn from our resources, they have to discover them first! Give your community, your support group or a local health event in your area the gift of education by sharing the OAC’s resources with them. You can do so either in the form of a link to our online brochures, or by ordering materials from us at this link.
Spread the Word about Our Work Online
You don’t even have to leave the comfort of your own home to be a volunteer for the OAC! The beauty of the Internet is that anyone can access it and share with others what they have to say. Share about the OAC on your blog, your social media pages or even in public message forums.
If someone is interested in learning more about how their weight and health are connected, share with them about the OAC. If someone is looking for support in relation to their weight-loss options, and share some of our resources from the Advocacy and Support section on our Web site. And if you see the OAC post a new blog or share something on social media, like it and share it with others who may take interest. You may find that you made a difference in someone’s life by sharing with them the education, advocacy and support of the OAC.
Join an OAC Committee
Are you ready to make a bigger commitment of your support for the OAC? Consider joining an OAC committee! The OAC’s committees are comprised of a variety of volunteers from across the country who help develop the OAC’s programs and initiatives. We have committees for various areas, such as education, weight bias, the OAC’s Your Weight Matters National Convention, access to obesity care and treatment and more.
We are always looking for enthusiastic volunteers. If you are interested in applying to serve on an OAC committee and to view the list of the OAC’s committees, please click here. Even if a committee isn’t actively seeking new members, showing your interest will let committee leaders know that you want to be involved and they may call on you for side projects or focus groups.
If you’re interested in becoming more involved as a volunteer with the OAC beyond these ideas, please do not hesitate to reach out! Send us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org to express your interest, and we’ll be in touch with you soon!
